COAST – WHEN THE NORTH WINDS BLOW

Northerly winds are often cursed by the UK’s south coast wave fraternity. It’s that pesky direction that can be howling windy everywhere, but at the same time leaving very little opportunity for any quality conditions.
With bolt offshore wind on the most of the south-facing beaches and most likely totally onshore further afield on the jagged north coasts of Devon and Cornwall, most sailors helplessly let 30-40 knot forecasts go to waste.
Early last summer a dreaded spell of howling northerlies showed up on my weather radar soon followed by a call the Timo Mullen calling for the Motley Crew to move into a state of readiness for a road trip headed west!
